The Making of Get It Girl Boss

On one of my Kindergarten progress reports, I received all A’s on all subjects. My teacher had noted that I was a good student, however, I was “bossy” at times with my classmates. When my Mom read that feedback to me, I felt bad. I didn’t want to be “bossy”. I didn’t want to be perceived as mean or that I was a bully. It left a poor impression on me at 5 years old, and I strived to be a people pleaser.

HELLO! WOW…my first BLOG post. How totally weird! Thank you for checking out my blog, as this is an exciting and scary journey for me. I’ve always loved writing and sharing with my friends, or really anyone that would listen, about what I’m passionate about!

A little about moi…born and raised in San Jose, California, (the YAY area, what??) I grew up in the Evergreen Valley area of San Jose, graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1997. That means, next year, will be my 20 year high school reunion! Cray cray crazy, right?

I am an American melting pot, my Mother is Chinese and my Father is German and Welsh. I am the first-born for my parents, and have a brother that is two years younger. Being a first born has its advantages and disadvantages. Pro – the first to experience everything. Con – the expectation to always get it right. So, you can say that I’m a Type A individual!

I remember very vividly when I was 5 years old.

What if my teacher said I had leadership skills but need a little coaching and encouragement on how to interact with her peers? Would that have helped me feel empowered? Funny how I used my innate “Bossyness” to work in my favor in life. I’ve always been the first to raise my hand and step up to challenges. I like being in charge. I like mentoring individuals and growing a team. I enjoy accomplishing goals. I love being “The Boss”.

While driving to work one morning, I was thinking of what I wanted to name my business. I’m a huge Gwen Stefani fan, love her style and music! I had the song “Wind It Up”playing in my head, “Get it girl, get it, get it, girl…” Then it clicked… Get it, Girl Boss!  It’s a bold statement to myself, to that little 5-year-old girl, that wanted to go after what she wanted; To empower others, embrace her purpose, and to enrich her life. Living the BOSS Life!
