Spring is here and Summer is quickly approaching! And, for most parts of the country, it’s getting HOTTTT! I’m ready to ditch my leggings, yoga pants, skinny jeans, for some shorts and dresses! But, my legs are SO PALE! They can seriously blind a baby! And, not matter how I try to get a sunkissed glow on my legs, they don’t seem to tan anymore?!
So, that had me wondering – why do your legs take longer to tan? If you are wondering the same, stick around as I’m here to answer that question!
Supposedly, there is a saying that says that the further away from your heart a part of your body is, the harder it is to tan. I don’t know about that, but it is a pretty common problem for a lot of people!
Why are legs so hard to tan?
The skin on your legs is thicker than other parts of your body, so it takes a little longer for the sun’s rays to penetrate it. Also, your legs may not produce as much melanin as the other parts of your body. Go figure!
If you want tanned legs you need to avoid…
Wearing tight pants! Having your legs exposed to oxygen assists with the tanning process. Wearing tight pants can constrict the blood flow to your legs, where it’s needed to produce that tan. BYE BYE leggings, see you in the FALL!
Another thing to avoid if you want tanned legs is shaving… well, at least try to cut back on shaving. When you shave you are also lightly exfoliating your skin, removing some of the tanned skin. You can also consider waxing so you won’t need to shave as often. Be sure to shave your legs on the days you do plan on tanning your legs and use a gently sugar and salt exfoliating scrub to remove any dead skin cells. Keep your legs moisturized!
Keeping your legs moisturized will help immensely to enhance your leg tanning! Legs are naturally low in moisture and become drier with even normal activities. Keep your legs moisturized during and after achieving your tan, and never let them get flaky and dry, to keep your legs looking gorgeous!
Don’t forget your SPF!
And, of course, never forget your SPF! You can still get tanned but you want to protect yourself from burns. Always choose a SPF with a minimum of 30, and reapply often! Skip the tanning oil…why? ‘Cause you are not fried chicken! Protect yourself before you wreck yourself! OK?
